Maribeth Anne Diem

Maribeth “Toots” Anne Diem age 79 of Menasha passed away early Wednesday morning February 24, 2021 at Appleton Medical Center. Born on October 11, 1942 in Shawano, she was the daughter of the late Gustave and Helen (Mitchell) (Birkholz) Holl. She grew up in rural Shawano and attended a small one room county school before graduating from High School in 1961. On July 1, 1967 she was united in marriage to Robert Diem at the Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano. After Robert and Maribeth “Toots” married they moved to Appleton. Their loving son Paul was born in 1968. Maribeth “Toots” would return to Shawano to her family homestead to enjoy canning and spending time with her mom, Helen and sister, Carol Busch and family and cousin playing Yahtzee and other board games. After 15 years of living in an apartment they moved to Menasha. She enjoyed having a garden and gardening around the house. She enjoyed visiting her niece and nephews every chance she could for birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and confirmations and graduations. She wouldn’t miss an event. Maribeth “Toots” went to a Christmas party with Robert and met her best friend Kay. They did everything together. Shopping, traveling to visit family, having their hair done, and many other adventures. She was very lucky to have Kay in her life. Maribeth took on a job at Pizza Hut and really enjoyed it until she had health issues.
Left to cherish her memory are: husband, Robert Diem, their son, Paul Diem of Menasha, sister, Carol Lehman (Diem), brother-in-law, John Busch of Shawano, Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friend, Kay Zeinart.
Maribeth “Toots” was proceeded in death by: parents, Gustave and Helen Birkholz; step-father, Melvin Holl; sister, Carol Busch; sister-in-laws, Ellen Curran, Dorothy Schwartz; brother-in-laws, Harvey Diem, Clarence Diem, Edward Diem, Dave Diem; grandparents, Charles and Anna Mitchell and Albert and Alma Birkholz.
