Robert Nordlander, age 82, died at Bridgewood Nursing Home on December 11, 2014. He was born June 17, 1932 in Neenah Wisconsin son of Frank and Joja (Bohlin) and lived all of his life in Menasha. He was proud of his Swedish heritage attending various Scandinavian events and traveling to Sweden to visit relatives. His only biological family are cousins living in Sweden. He would often point out that there was even a province there with his last name.

Bob was a Korean War Veteran who served at Edwards Air Force Base in California where he worked in the Center for History writing a History of the USAF Flight Test School which is still in print. In addition over the years, he has written several articles which have been published along with numerous letters to the editor to newspapers world wide.

He attended the University of Minnesota earning a BA in history with minors in political science, Spanish and French. He taught English, Spanish, history, and French at various schools in Wisconsin. Bob also ran as a Democrat for the state assembly and as on the socialist labor party ticket for US Senate and Lieutenant Governor.

Although not having close relatives, he had a strong network of friends and organizations. The Hudak family adopted him and he was fondly referred to as "Uncle Bob". He was a charter member of the Menasha Hegelian Society along with Gene, Ed and Virendra. He also belonged to the American Civil Liberties Union, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, Freedom from Religion Society, the Socialist Labor Party, the Candle Light Club of Oshkosh, the Unitarian Universalist Book Club, and the UU Symposium. Even though he was a committed atheist and remained so till the end, he attended the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship weekly where he often commented during talk-back following the sermon.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 1:00 pm on January 17th at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2600 Phillip Lane in Appleton. Friends will asked to share their remembrances or their favorite readings.
