Darlene Ann LaBombard

May 11, 1937 — June 4, 2023

Appleton

Darlene Ann LaBombard passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4th with family and a friend by her side. She was the eighth of twelve children born to Carl and Elsie Peil of Baileys Harbor, WI.

She married Roger LaBombard on December 28, 1957 and they had two children; Jack Lee and Cindy Ann. They divorced in 1975 and she and her children moved back to Wisconsin to Sturgeon Bay.

She worked many jobs over her lifetime, most of her time working as a bookkeeper. She was a jack-of-all trades:  writing poetry, researching family history, painting, carving, knitting and crocheting. She especially loved to sew quilts and pillowcase dresses for children around the world, delivered by the Orphan Grain Train for 15 years. She also loved making lap blankets for the “elderly.”

Darlene’s love lives on in the hearts of her son and daughter, Jack (Michelle Ritz) LaBombard, Cindy (Bruce) Burton, two grandchildren Brent (Heather) Burton and Kristen (Alex) Boettcher, two great-grandchildren Sadie Burton and Henry Boettcher; two brothers, Ervin and Jerry Peil and one sister, Esther Gauger, and many other dear relatives and friends. Her greatest gift in her life were her family and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and four sisters, Ralph, Harold, Donald and Carl Peil, Helen Seiler, Deloris Heling, Margaret Sawyer and Judy Peil.

A celebration of life will be held graveside on Saturday, August 5 at 1:00pm at Baileys Harbor Cemetery with Pastor Gary Scharrig, Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating.
