Douglas Allen Johnson, 64, of Menasha, WI passed away on September 20th, 2024. He was born on March 10th, 1960 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was a beloved son to Harry and Carol Johnson.
As a child, Doug was an Alter Boy, a Cub Scout and enjoyed watching the Batman and Robin Show after school, which he later introduced to his grandchildren. He became a Minnesota Vikings fan around age 10 and has endured years of agony for this dedicated decision. His favorite colors are Purple and Gold and would often dress up in a full Vikings Costume at the Green Bay Packer stadium when they played eachother. He attended St. Margaret Marys and Neenah High School in Neenah, WI. Doug enjoyed music, attending concerts and self taught himself to play the guitar extremely well. Doug's energetic and fun personality was enjoyed by many childhood friends in the Monroe Street area. His driving skills were developed driving go-karts while working and playing at Johnson's Funland.
Over the decades, Doug had always helped friends and family members with using his natural-ability regarding handy-man work anytime he could. In recent years, Doug helped build his mother a mother-in-law suite and completely remodeled and painted his ex wife's home. Doug had many years of expertise with the art of painting and know that his all-time favorite paint color was Dover White. He would highy suggest it to anyone he knew, following in the foot steps of his ex father-in-law, that taught him to paint and worked along side of for many years before starting his own painting business. Doug had used his professional wood-working skills by building for others many useful and beautiful furniture pieces.
He was taught the art of inland trout-fishing from his father and loved getting into the streams of Wisconsin to trout fish. He will especially be missed at the annual Champagne Trout season opener gathering of friends and family organized by his father nearly 50 years ago.
His favorite snack was pistachios and had many cats that he named after nuts; Pistachio, Pinecone, Cashew and Acorn. He enjoyed blowing up fireworks and big bonfires. He thoroughly enjoyed planning activities, especially with his grandchildren, and tried to make time with him memorable as he was a big kid at heart.
He was preceded in death by his Father Harry.
He is survived by his mother Carol (Young) Johnson, daughter Amber McQuillan (Andy); cherished grandchildren Jaycie Gerrits, Kaiden Gerrits and Brycen McQuillan; his siblings Debra Sewall, Mike (Heide), Sue, Joan, and Robert (Tracy) and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bubolz Nature Preserve on October 13th, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 pm. 2815 N. Lynndale Drive Appleton, WI.
