Eleanor DeShaney

d. February 28, 2023

Neenah, Wisconsin

Eleanor = bright shining one

Louise = renowned warrior

Eleanor “Ellie” L. (Bagstad) DeShaney struggled with her birth name yet clearly embodied what her parents created. The family moved to Appleton, WI. Ellie graduated from Appleton High School in 1962. She worked at Prange’s and spent many years with various home construction and real estate businesses, which allowed her to build her home of 51 years.

After completing a Marketing degree at FVTC, she landed at the Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass—lastly, Schenck and Associates. Unfortunately, Ellie lost her job during the recession in 2008 and was the victim of a crime in 2012. Events tragically changed the trajectory of her life’s perspective. It is these life challenges fast-tracked her on course with a neurodegenerative disease.

In retirement, she worked at Lakeview School and loved the kids and the hugs she received. In addition, she worked at the Fox Cities Chamber visitors' office, talking with people about our great state and community. Ellie volunteered briefly at the Neenah Animal Shelter.

She ascended her warrior spirit at Valley VNA Senior Care on Tuesday night, February 28, 2023, as her granddaughter requested G’ma guide her from heaven. Ellie was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Mary Bagstad, a man she loved, Wayne Philipsen, and great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Marie. She is survived by her daughter, Leah; granddaughter, Hope (Michaela), her brother Paul (Carla) Bagstad, nephews, nieces, and their families.

In honor of Ellie’s memory, please consider donating to the Neenah Animal Shelter or supporting your local school district.

Be a volunteer.

The family will hold a private service this spring to celebrate Ellie’s renewal. In addition, the family thanks Valley VNA Senior Care and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for caring for the stubborn, independent spirit that was Ellie.
