Elizabeth Schiller, age 90, died on May 21, 2026.
She was born on October 9, 1935 in Crvenka, Yugoslavia to Jakob and Katharina Oppermann. The family had to flee their hometown when the communists came during the Second World War and finally ended up in Aichach, Germany. Elizabeth went to grammar school there and to high school and secretarial school in Augsburg. She worked as a secretary in Munich and later emigrated to the US with her parents in 1955 to Chicago, Illinois.
Elizabeth married the love of her life, Hans Schiller, on April 6, 1957. They were happily married for over 69 years. They had two children, Monika (Randall) Krueger of Marion, WI and Hans Peter (Keri) Schiller of Westerville, Ohio. They enjoyed being a close family with their children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren!
Hans and Elizabeth were very active as Jehovah’s Witnesses. They attended the Appleton West congregation. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in September 1950. The truth from the Bible was very important to her. She helped many people learn about Jehovah God and dedicate their lives to him.
Her spirited personality, straightforward way of speaking, and hardworking hospitality endeared her to everyone.
The couple lived in the Chicago area, Roscoe, Illinois, retired to Greenville, Wisconsin and were snowbirds to Naples, Florida, making many dear friends over the years.
Elizabeth traveled with Hans to many places in Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Asia, and South America.
“Omi” (Grandmother), affectionately called by her family, will be truly missed and we so look forward to seeing her again on the paradise earth God has promised.
