Ethel "Kay"
Dombrowski
May 8, 1936 — Aug 8, 2026
Buchanan
Kay, age 90, passed away August 8, 2026, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.
Kay had the biggest heart. She never hesitated to put others first, always wanting to help whenever and whoever she could.
Her greatest joy in this world was being a Gramma. Her 3 grandsons meant absolutely everything to her. We were blessed to have her as their “babysitter” the whole time they were growing up. She loved that roll so much. She bandaged many toy dinosaurs, chased and caught countless butterflies and was always up for whatever the kids wanted to do.
Kay learned to be tough at a young age, and she continued to be a fighter her whole life. She battled decades of pain, cancer, dementia and loss, but did her best to never let it overcome her. She was always there for us until it became physically impossible.
Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mark Williamson. Grandsons, Joey (Mikenna Pecha), Trevor (Camie Kilsdonk) and Hunter (Lindsay Ladd). Her brother George Buchanan and brother-in-law Dave (Georgia) Dombrowski, along with her amazing nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded by and reunited with her loving husband, Jim, who has been waiting for her to join him in Heaven since May 2025. Her son Joe Dombrowski. Parents Gussie Buchanan and George Buchanan. Sister, Flo Bertrand, sisters and brothers-in-law, Maggie and Quillian Collier and Becky and Harlis Ashley. Brother James Buchanan, brother and sister-in law, Carl and Marge Buchanan, and beautiful niece, Kimmie Caracoles.
A very special thank you to the most amazing staff at St. Paul Elder Services. The care, respect and compassion that was given to Kay will never be forgotten… Even on her “spicy days”. We are forever grateful for each and every one of you. And to her hospice care team, especially Liz. Thank you for everything and for being with us through it all and for making mom smile.
You are all angels.
Per Kays request, there will be a private service in the upcoming weeks.
