Oct 2, 1944 — Apr 23, 2026

Little Chute

Herbert A. Melchert Jr., of Little Chute passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026 surrounded by loving family. Herb was born on October 2, 1944 to Martha E. (Lemmens) Melchert and Herbert A. Melchert Sr. residing in Black Creek.

Herb was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. NASCAR was his passion. Fishing was always a bright spot of his day especially when shared with his sons. He enjoyed Country music with Willie Nelson topping his list of favorites. Herb was one of the rare people who enjoyed getting up early and going to work each day. He finally retired due to health concerns in August 2025.

On April 3, 1993 Herb married Shirley Measor (Bradley) and they happily merged their families.

Herb was preceded in death by parents and loved ones: his mother and father; his mother and father-in-law; his brother, Danny; his brothers-in-law, Joe Walter and Mike Hansen; and his nephew, Tyler Bradley.

Herb is survived by his wife, Shirley; and his five children, Rick (Lucy) Melchert, Mike Melchert, Tara (Ken) Ebben, Tom (Holly) Melchert, and MaryAnn Melchert; his stepchildren, Brady (Mandy) Measor, Courtney (Josh) Roen, and Clayton Measor; his siblings, Dick (Sharon) Melchert and Sara Melchert; his sister-in-law, MaryAnn Melchert; and 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

We would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to providers and staff at ThedaCare (Appleton), St. Elizabeth Hospital (Appleton), St. Mary's (Green Bay), and Brewster Village (Appleton) for the excellent care he received.

Herb will be laid to rest in Saxeville Cemetery with people he loved. The "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, May 16th at Town of Center Hall, N3990 State Rd. 47 Appleton, WI from 1-4 PM.  Please join us in celebrating Herb’s life.
