James Dombrowski

James (Jim, Jimmy, JD and Porkchop) Dombrowski age 86 passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep on May 5, 2025.

With permission, his grandson, Trevor is allowing us to share his Facebook post. Nothing says it better:

Not often am I at a loss of words. Until now. I don’t know where to begin. You were a literal walking gps, a man of millions of miles. You were a father, brother, cousin, but most importantly my grandfather. Being away in Texas and getting mom’s phone call put my world into a downward spiral, knowing you’re gone is still in question to me. Trying to wrap my head around it. Flying high in the clouds tonight is the closest I’ll be to you to give you one last hug. This isn’t goodbye, but see you again. Tell uncle Joey hi from the rest of us down here. I love you Grandpa. Forever yours Trev

Jim drove semi for decades and at his retirement he had logged nearly 3 million miles. Driving was his passion and yes, he literally was a walking GPS! You could call him from wherever you were lost, give him an idea of where you were and just like that you were back on track.

Jim married the love of his life, Kay, on June 2, 1962…just shy of 63 years together. They were each other’s everything. Unless he was driving over the road, they were never far apart.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kay (Mama Bear) who he loved unconditionally. Daughter Lisa (Mark) Williamson who he loved, in his own words, like a 2nd son. He loved their time together and bouncing ideas off him.

His greatest pride and joy were his three grandsons. Joey (special friend Mikenna), Trevor (special friend Camie) and Hunter (special friend Lindsay). Those boys never failed to bring the biggest and proudest smile to his face. His eyes lit up whenever he saw them. When the boys were younger, he made it to as many football games, wrestling matches and Pinewood Derby races as he could.

Jim is further survived by his brother, Dave (Georgia) Dombrowski, Brother-in-law, George Buchanan, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Dombrowski, Parents Rose and Simon Dombrowski, Mother-in-law, Gussie Buchanan and Father-in-law George Buchanan

Niece, Kimmie Caracoles, Brother and Sister-in-laws Marge and Carl Buchanan, Becky and Harlis Ashley, Maggie and Quillian Collier, Flo Bertrand and James Buchanan.

Jim, his smile and his belly-laugh will be missed by everyone who was lucky and blessed enough to have known him. He was always there to listen, to help and never failed to encourage.

Per Jim’s request, a private gathering was held.
