Age 93 of Menasha, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, holding his wife, Mary’s hand.
Jerry was born in the Township of Greenville on August 24, 1932, the Son of Otto and Meta Hankemeier.
Jerry was an Usher and a Deacon for his church, Bethel Lutheran in Menasha. He was also a workshop leader for woodcrafts at the Boys’ Brigade in Neenah, Wisconsin. He was drafted in1952 by the Army and served in Yokohama, Japan, as an MP. After military service, he returned to his job at Marathon Corporation. He worked for 40 years and retired at the age of 60.
Jerry enjoyed bowling, woodworking, gardening, and reading books about many genres. He enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slot machines. He also enjoyed doing many activities with his children and later with his grandchildren. Dad could not read music; however, he taught himself how to play the organ, guitar, and accordion.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary, of 69 years. Children. Randy (Kim) Hankemeier, Debbie (Matt) Berg, and daughter-in-law Chell Hankemeier. Grandchildren, Steven (Bre) Hankemeier, Christine (Steven) Savarino, Thomas (Carly) Hankemeier, Ashley (Quinn) Koehler, and Nicole Hankemeier. Great-grandchildren. Weston Hankemeier, Emerson Hankemeier, Paisley Koehler, Karson Koehler, and Harper Hankemeier.
Jerry is preceded in death by his son Rick, his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place and Generations Hospice for the love and care provided for Jerry. A special thank you to John, a veteran, and Beth, Hospice Coordinator, for hosting the Military Pinning Ceremony on Friday, September 26.
A Celebration of Life for those who wish to gather and share memories of Jerry with the family will be held at Stone Toad, 1109 Oneida St., Menasha, on Saturday, October 18, from 1:00 to 3:00.
