Katie Schaefer passed away at age 95 on March 9, 2021. Katie was born in Hopkins, Missouri on her grandfather's farm to Jack and Ellen Campbell. She grew up there with her two sisters, Anna (Cross) and Agnes (Mendenhall). Katie's first husband was Dr. George Nichols, also born in Missouri. After finishing his residency and military service the family moved to Appleton in 1957. Katie loved Appleton from the start.
Katie was ambitious and never let life pass her by. She earned a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin in her 40’s, and afterward worked for the Red Cross and then Outagamie County as a psychologist. She did not retire until after her 80th birthday.
Katie is survived by 3 children: Paula Nichols VanDusen, Mike Nichols, and Robert (wife Junko) Nichols; 3 grandchildren: Joshua (wife Laura) Nichols, Trevor Nichols, and Shane Nichols, as well as one new great-granddaughter Savannah Nichols.
