Chilton

Larry Oakley, of Chilton, passed away peacefully on August 22nd, 2025, at the age of 81, at his home surrounded by the family he so deeply loved.

Larry lived a full life defined by hard work, devotion, and simple joys. He was the kind of man who was happiest when keeping busy, whether it was tinkering on a project in his garage, fixing something for a friend, or working outdoors. He had a gift for seeing the potential in things, with patience and determination, he could turn a challenge into an accomplishment. His hands were rarely still, and his work ethic was admired by all who knew him.

When he wasn’t in the garage, Larry could often be found out on the ice with a fishing pole, enjoying the peace and quiet of the frozen lakes. Ice fishing was one of his favorite pastimes and it reflected much of who he was: patient, steady, and always willing to wait for the reward.

At the end of each day, Larry cherished the simple tradition of sitting down with Marilyn to play cards together. It was a nightly ritual that reflected their deep bond and the joy they found in one another’s company throughout their 60 years of marriage.

On October 31st in 1964, Larry married the love of his life, Marilyn, in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Together they shared six decades of marriage, raising their children, building a home filled with love, supporting their grandchildren, and creating countless memories. Their marriage stood as a testament to love, loyalty, and faith in one another.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Keith (Sheila) Oakley and Jamie (Trish) Oakley; his daughters, Tina (Mike) Franzen and Holly (Matt) Propson; son in law, Andrew Fernandez; and his grandchildren Macey, Blake, Noah, McKella, Breanna, Brandon, Katie, Michael, and Danielle. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Fernandez and his granddaughter, Kristen, both of whom he carried in his heart throughout his life.

He will be remembered as a man of great character: strong yet gentle, hardworking yet humble, practical yet full of quiet wisdom. His legacy is one of love for family, respect for honest work, and gratitude for life’s simple blessings.

A private funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 14th at 1:00 PM at Portland Cemetery in Chilton, WI 53014
