Appleton

Gone too soon, but never will he be forgotten. Our forever 34 💔

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of our loved one, Manuel J. Granados III, 34 of Appleton, Wisconsin, born in Fresno, California, while in the care of ThedaCare/AMC. This has left us shaken, and the void his absence leaves in our lives is immense. His mom, brother, pops, and Lily were at his bedside at the time of his passing.

The pain we feel is without doubt, the most unbearable pain a parent can experience. However, I refuse to let this tragedy define my son's life or our memories of him. Instead, let us celebrate the impact he made on our lives and the immeasurable love he brought to us. Though, we may never truly understand why such a tragedy has occurred, let us take solace in knowing that we have all been blessed with the time we shared with my son.

From the moment he entered this world, he brought an indescribable joy to our lives. Manuel’s aka: "Son, Kiddo, Brother, Mijo, Joe, Joejoe, Joejoebean, Joseph, Manny, Bubba, Baba" artistic legacy will have a lasting impact on the gaming community. Joe made major contributions to the fantasy roleplay and tabletop gaming, starting in its early days as narrating, writing, and creating Worlds for D&D as the Dungeon Master. His brother Gus and many others will preserve and continue his legacy.

Joe was Incredibly Creative, in both running the game of D&D for his friends on Discord. He also ran a side Game of the same story for his brother Gus and his brother's friends, and participated in the games as a Player.

A quote he said, “Man, I just want to tell a story!” He rarely told his players “No”, opting instead to tell the story in such a way that the really cool thing they wanted to accomplish was not only possible, but supported in the scope of the narrative he was telling. He wanted one thing as the Dungeon Master, to make his friends characters as cool as he believed his players were in real life, but he made them work for it!

There were times where Joe would laugh so hard, his mic would stop picking up his voice due to how loud and high pitched it would get. His roommate Aaron would hear him screaming with joy through the walls of their home. Joe would return to the call, he’d say something else, and the whole thing would happen again. He wanted nothing more than to have a good time, whether it was Games, D&D, Family, Friends, Movies, or Comics.

We will remember him forever. He was a beacon of love and light. He was unique and unapologetically himself. He embodied positivity and made this world a brighter place. He touched countless lives, his laugh infectious, his smile lit up the room, his sense of humor and funny faces always made us laugh. We will forever hold his memories close and let his life be a reminder of just how fleeting life can be. His journey on this earth, though tragically brief, was filled with moments of beauty, grace, and unforgettable joy.

Joe is survived by his mother, Jess Oviatt, brother Augustus Hernandez, stepsisters Serenity & Isis, pops Adam Oviatt, grandmothers Jessica Barriente & Rose Hernandez Whitcomb, uncles Moses Flores, Tom & Tim Hernandez, sister-n-law Lily Morgan, partners, Jess & Mirage, nephews Jesse & Brandon Hernandez, nieces Alayna & Melody Hernandez, many cousins, besties/friends/online friends/gaming friends Alex, Brandon, Devin, Micheal, Zach, Aaron S, Jessie, Monty, Andrea, Imaginary Dan, Tyler, Daniel, Quinn, Wil, Brianna, Poppy, Adrianna, Lucian, Jynx, Matt, Bennett, Justin, Batsy (Shiloh), Aaron O, Brian, Laura, Kat, Dalton, Doom, Claervo, coworkers at Grand Stay and DoubleTree by Hilton Appleton who all love and will miss him very deeply.
