Michael D. Radl

Rock HIll, SC

Mike Radl, age 78, passed away after a two year battle with cancer. He was born November 30, 1944, in Madison, Wisconsin to the late Godfrey Radl and Louise “Grace” (Kast) Radl.

Mike attended Madison East High School where he was an active participant in the science and  math clubs, and competed on the school’s wrestling team until his graduation in 1962. 

He went on to attend Wisconsin State University Platteville, where he graduated with a double major in Chemistry and Mathematics. On January 23, 1965, he married Kathleen Werndli in Madison, Wisconsin. 

Mike embarked on a 50-year career in the paper and paper coating industry that started at Kimberly-Clark in Neenah, WI, and took him to locations in Mississippi, Illinois and finally to Rock Hill, South Carolina where he worked for Rhodia until he retired in 2012. When asked about his career, he remarked “I was fortunate to have picked a career that I loved.”  

He is survived by his three children Michelle (Victor) Heffner (Cleveland, Ohio), Nicole Radl (Appleton), Michael (Ashley) Radl (Neenah), his four grandchildren Danielle, Evan, Michael, and Madelyn; his brother, Paul Radl (Sauk City), his former wife Kathy Radl (Appleton) and many nieces and nephews. 

He enjoyed hunting with his family at his cabin up north, learning about his family ancestry, model railroading, traveling, golf, and playing cards. Mike was involved in the Knights of Columbus at the state and local levels in Rock Hill and was a committed volunteer for several charitable organizations around Rock Hill.

A funeral service will be Friday, September 8th, 2023 at 10:00 am at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Madison, WI, followed by a funeral mass and reception in Rock Hill, SC, shortly after. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s memory to Dorothy Days Soup Kitchen (https://dorothydaysoupkitchen.org/) in Rock Hill, SC.
