June 14, 1938 — August 8, 2024

Appleton

Philip Kurczewski 86 of Appleton WI found peace on August 8 2024.

Phil lived a full and interesting life, excelling in many things. He was an artist, songwriter and musician, farmer, real estate developer, skilled carpenter and bar owner of The Thirsty Whale in Altamonte Springs, Florida and Appleton, Wi.

Phil’s support for local musicians and promoting open-mic nights, helped many young musicians start their journeys. In later years they paid tribute to “Calypso Phil” and played his original signature songs, which he loved.

Phil’s birthday was always a celebration. The 60th was epic, the largest open-mic party at Memorial Park. He was proud and thrilled getting his original songs professionally recorded. Thanks to all who made these events happen.

Phil was a kind person with numerous friends from all walks of life.

Born June 14 1938 to John and Stella Kurczewski in Milwaukee WI.

Preceded in death, parents, sisters Grace Waalen, Adeline Arenas and Judy Palok.

Survived by brothers David and James (Eileen) Kurczewski. Nephews and nieces and Godson Bobby.

There is no formal service.

A celebration of life is being planned and held at The Riverside Bar & Grill, So Oneida St Appleton, WI. Announced at a later date.
