Obituary

Richard Keith Evensen “Rick” entered the home of his lord and savior on Saturday January 24th, 2026 with his family by his side.

He was born on April 1, 1951 to the late Clarence and Alvina (Zelensky) Evensen. Rick attended Hoover Elementary school and was part of the Neenah High School graduating class of 1969. He married Carol Hagen in September of 1973. This past September they celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Rick’s love of cars and racing led him to his first job as a mechanic at the age of 16. He worked for Karl’s service in Neenah for 15+ years. From there he went on to work for the city of Neenah water department where he retired in 2014.

Rick’s home was in Neenah but his favorite place was his second home in Hiles, WI. It is where he spent most of his childhood summers and he loved to tell stories of his adventures there. It was his happy place where he was a friend to everyone he met. Along with family and friends they built a cabin that Rick was incredibly proud of. He loved taking care of his lawn. Not just his lawn but also everyone else’s! You could usually find him on the riding lawnmower. He painstakingly decorated the outside with Christmas lights during the holiday season for all (including the deer) to enjoy. It was in Hiles that he shared his love of fishing, hunting and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. It is also how he got his nickname from the grandkids - “Papa Cabin”.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents - Clarence and Alvina Evensen, his father and mother in law – Lloyd and Lorraine Hagen and his sister in law Judy Witkowski.

He is survived by his loving wife Carol, daughter Dannielle (TJ) Becher, son Eric Evensen and daughter Megan (Adam) Anderson. His three beautiful grandchildren Emma, Camden and Holden. They were his absolute pride and joy. He is further survived by his brother Gary Evensen, brother in law Jim (Donna) Hagen, brother in law Ron (Paula) Hagen, brother in law Don Witkowski and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Over the last few years Rick was able to reconnect with many of his high school friends. He enjoyed their lunch get togethers and spoke about this often. It meant so much to him.

A funeral service will be held on Monday February 16th 2026 at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 Broad Street Menasha. Family and friends may visit the church from 9:30AM until the time of service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Chelsey McNabb-Pender and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their care and guidance during this difficult time.
