Obituary

Shirley Mae Rogers, 88, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on June 10, 2026. Born on January 9, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Shirley, known lovingly as "Shirl," lived a full and vibrant life defined by warmth, kindness, and a genuine love for the people around her.

Shirley grew up in Milwaukee as the daughter of William Bresler and Alice Eschenburg. In 1956, she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, embarking on a career that would span decades and touch countless lives. She dedicated 26 years of service to St. Paul's nursing home and didn't hang up her nursing cap until the age of 71, a testament to her deep commitment to caring for others.

On May 9, 1958, Shirley married the love of her life, Clifford "Skeeter" Rogers. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage and raised five children. Shirley was a cheerful, loving, and kind person who truly enjoyed her social life. She was a proud member of the Flasky Red Hatters of Appleton for several years, and she could often be found playing and planning various card games with her dear friends at Ridgeview. Shirley's creative spirit kept her hands busy with counted cross stitch, knitting, and crocheting, while her love of music found expression at the piano. She was also an avid reader with a particular fondness for historical fiction. Perhaps her proudest achievement, and the one that best captured her adventurous spirit, was skydiving with her daughter Sandra at the age of 72.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Ron (De Anna) Rogers and Rick (Kathi) Rogers; her daughters, Robyn (Matt) Jackson, Holly Williams, and Sandra Rogers; her brother Frank A. Bresler; her sister Mary Anna Starkell; her brother Edward Bresler; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifford "Skeeter" Rogers; her parents, William Bresler and Alice Eschenburg; her sisters, Dorothy Noll and Bernice Goodreau; and her brother, William J. Bresler.

Per Shirley's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

Shirley's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to ThedaCare Hospice Services for all the loving care they gave Shirley during her final days. Her cheerful smile and kind heart will be remembered always.
