William Louis Bernard Matchinski

William Matchinski of Appleton, Wisconsin died August 29, 2023 after a short illness following a hip replacement surgery.

William was raised on a dairy farm in Engadine, MI. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1968, and taught 8th grade history in the Charlevoix, MI school system until he returned to get his Masters degree in Library Science. After graduation from Western Michigan University, William took a job at the University of Toledo as a reference librarian. Three years later he became the Librarian at the Wyoming State Hospital in Evanston, WY. This was a position he held for 40 years, helping both staff and patents.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Christine Matchinski, daughters Laura (James) Goodwin of Cedar Park, TX, Katherine (Corey) Swanson and two grandsons, Dean S. and Ryan W. Swanson all of Appleton, WI. He is also survived by his two sisters, Eunice Fillman and Doris Matchinski of Newberry, MI., as well as numerous cousins, grand nephews and nieces.

Interment will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Engadine, MI. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
